Tile floors are quickly becoming the hot new look for most upscale homes. Adding this look to your house will make it appear much more elegant and sophisticated. Even if you don't know anything about tiling a floor, it's not hard to learn how to lay ceramic tile.
Video tutorials online, as well as in-person DIY classes at a local home improvement store, can teach the lay person how to plan their project, get the tools they need, and install the tile.
The first step in laying tile is to put down thinset on a clean, bare subfloor surface. Beginning at the middle of the room, start placing the tiles on the thinset and working outward toward the edges of the room. Put specialized tile spacers between each tile, and once you're done you can take them all out and fill the gutters with grout.

For applying grout, you'll need to mix it up to a thick paste. Use a specialized float to apply the tile, held at a 45 degree angle. Immediately wipe all excess grout off the tiles and shape the grout with an old toothbrush. Read the manufacturer's instructions carefully whenever working with grout to ensure that you correctly mix and clean the grout. After about a week, you may seal the grout to prevent discoloration.

The trickiest part of how to lay ceramic tile is cutting it to fit around the perimeter of the room or other obstructions. One method for doing so is to use a pencil to draw the shape that you want to cut. Draw it directly on the tile. Use a glass cutter to score the lines you drew, and then also score lines in the area you want cut off. Then use a tile nipper or pliers to chip away small chips until you've achieved the desired shape.

Tile is one of the hottest new looks in today's most expensive homes. Bring the look to your house with simple directions on how to lay ceramic tile in any room of your house, no matter what your level of home improvement experience.
